New deadline for Speed mentoring at ICPS in Paris

Dear Colleagues,

We are writing to invite you to participate in the Women in Cognitive Science (WiCS)* speed mentoring program planned for the 2019 International Convention of Psychological Science (ICPS) in Paris, France. WiCS will host a panel discussion on Thursday, March 7, from 3-4:50 pm on: Negotiating Challenges to Scientific Advancement: Disappointment, Delays, and Declines. The speed mentoring program, scheduled from 5-6 pm, will link junior scientists with senior scientists to meet briefly (for 15-20 minutes) during the WiCS reception following the WiCS panel.

The WiCS speed mentoring program, launched two years ago, has now taken place at previous meetings of the Psychonomic Society in the US and in Europe, at APS, and at the 2017 ICPS meeting in Vienna. There are several ground rules for speed mentoring: 1. this is a one-time session (i.e., the mentor is not signing on for a longer-term mentoring relationship); 2. the mentee should come with a specific question or two to guide the session and make the most of it; 3. the mentee should send the mentor a CV and the question(s) ahead of time, but not expect that the mentor will have read this information prior to the meeting; and 4. the information shared during the session is to be kept completely confidential.

Both mentors and mentees from the previous sessions have reported finding the experience to be very useful. This is a program for women and men scientists alike, for both mentors and mentees.
